Teams

The Club has teams for boys and girls at most age groups from Under 8 upwards as well as adult football.
For all age groups the qualifying date is midnight on the 31st August (e.g. to qualify for Under 9’s you must still be 8 years old by midnight on the 31st August that year). Under F.A. rules no child under 14 may play in a team involving players more than two years older.
Under 8’s to Under 10’s play mini-soccer which is normally 7 a side / in squads of up to 14 players. The goals for mini soccer are 1.83m x 3.66m (6ft high x 12ft wide).
Under 11’s normally play 9 v 9 on an intermediate size pitch with goals 2.13m x 4.88m (7ft high x 16ft wide). You must be at least 10 to play at this age group.
Under 12’s upwards play 11 a side on a standard full size pitch with goals 2.44m x 7.32m (8ft high x 24ft wide).
If you are interested in playing for a team, visit the Contact page and then email or speak to the Club Secretary who can give you the information you need.
If we can, we will invite you down to a training session or to one of our pre-season trials from which the squads are selected.
Unfortunately, due to the success of the Club and the limit on squad numbers imposed on us by the League, there is not always space for everyone. In these circumstances we try our best to keep players training with us until a space comes free, or introduce them to our Saturday Soccer Centre, or recommend them to another Charter Standard Club.
The Club operates on a membership basis. If you are chosen for a team, you will be asked to sign our Code of Conduct, complete a membership form each year and pay the required membership fee. The fee covers all playing and training costs for the season, which normally runs from September to May. It also covers kit & equipment, league, referee and pitch fees, trophies and basic insurance cover and is the same for everyone regardless of age or the number of appearances in matches.
Before the start of the season you will also be asked for passport photos and proof of age in order to register with the League. If you are already registered with a different Club then they will have to agree to your transfer – just like the professional game.
Whittington FC's insurance policy provides Death Cover of £5,000 and Permanent Total Disablement Cover of £50,000 for all members whilst they are training, playing and travelling to/from organised matches. We also have Public Liability cover through our affiliation to Staffordshire F.A. However, our insurance provides no cover for injuries or for loss of earnings.
