Club Honours: (with Shrewsbury Town F.C.) :
Football League Two Play-Off Finalist 2006-07
Biography:
Chris Mackenzie began his professional career in 1993 at non-league Corby Town at the tender age of 21. A year later he joined Graham Turner’s Hereford United (then in Division Four) where he became the regular first team keeper.
One of the highlights of Chris’s time at Hereford was when he joined the special band of goalkeepers to have actually scored during a league match. His goal came against Barnet and the conceding goalkeeper was none other than Maik Taylor (now at Birmingham City) who was making his league debut at the time.
After 3 years with Hereford Utd, Chris transferred to Leyton Orient in 1998 before an extended spell at Nuneaton Borough where he made over 150 appearances. He then moved on to Telford United before rejoining the Football League in 2004 with Chester City.
After two years at Chester, Mackenzie signed for Shrewsbury Town on May 15, 2006 on the Bosman ruling and was handed his club début on August 22, 2006 in a League Cup game at Birmingham City. Having impressed, he went on to enjoy an extended run in the team culminating in the chance to line up at Wembley for the first time in his career in the League Two play-off final against Bristol Rovers in May 2007. (sadly the Shrews succumbed to a 3-1 defeat).
In September 2007 Mackenzie joined Conference side Kidderminster Harriers on loan to provide cover for the injured Scott Bevan, before making the move permanent in January 2008 as part of a deal that saw Bevan move in the opposite direction.
At the end of the 2007/08 season Chris was released by Kidderminster and joined Hinckley United in the Blue Square North where he has been first choice keeper since the start of the current season.
Chris joined Whittington F.C. as goalkeeping coach in October 2008 and provides specialist weekly training sessions across all the Club’s teams and age groups.
