History

Season 2005/06

  • Club runs 19 teams (6 small sided and 13 eleven a side).
  • Coaching for players with disabilities launched at Rocklands & Queens Croft Special Schoos as a joint project with the County FA.
  • Five brand new pitches provided at Whittington Barracks so we can play all teams at one venue.
  • Joint venture agreed with Whittington Parish Council for an all-weather pitch adjoining Bit End Field.
  • Ian Broomhall achieves the Level 3 (UEFA B) coaching badge to become the highest qualified junior football coach in the area.
  • Steve Kirk receives the County and Regional F.A. awards for his contribution to football administration.
  • Over a 100 old/surplus Club shirts donated to the Sporting Chance International charity for use in Africa. Club also sponsors Pamela Osore a 15 year old referee in Kenya by donating a new kit & refereeing equipment.
  • Club website re-designed and re-launched thanks to Alan Jackson.

Season 2004/05

  • Most successful season in the Club’s history winning 13 trophies - 4 League titles, 6 Cup winners and 3 runner’s up.
  • Under 8 Lions coached by Lloyd Jeffries & Mark Durant win the League & Cup double in their first season.
  • Under 9 Pride coached by Stuart Evans become the first team in the Club’s history to win a second successive League & Cup double.
  • Whittington FC is awarded the title of top Development Club in Staffordshire by the County FA.
  • Club achieves FA Charter Standard “Community Club” status - the highest award possible for amateur clubs.
  • 16 more volunteers pass their Level 1 coaching badge with the Club’s support, alongside two Level 2 awards and one Level 3 (Ian Broomhall) – the first person in the Club to hold a UEFA B Licence.

Season 2003/04

  • Club starts the season with 18 teams (7 at small sided and 11 at full sided including a new Ladies team).
  • Under 8 Pride coached by Stuart Evans win the League & Cup double in their first season.
  • Ladies team achieves the FA Charter Standard - Adult Award making Whittington the first Club in the UK to hold this recognition at both adult and junior level.
  • New red & white striped Club home shirt is introduced.
  • Floodlight training facility is relocated to Baxter’s Field.
  • Club website (www.whittingtonfc.co.uk) is launched.
  • Club Committee is expanded with Steve Kirk as the new Club Chairman.

Season 2002/03

  • Number of teams increases from 14 to 20 (including two more girl’s teams).
  • Under 8 Tigers coached by Ian Broomhall win the League & Cup double in their first season.
  • U14 boys managed by Adrian Wain finish as League & Cup runner’s up.
  • Formal link between the Club and West Bromwich Albion F.C. Academy is announced at the W.B.A. training ground in Birmingham.  
  • Kevin Wilson resigns as Club Chairman after 3 years at the helm.


Season 2001/02

  • F.A. introduces the Charter Standard scheme and Whittington become the first Club in Staffordshire to achieve “Development Club” status.
  • Club runs 14 teams (including 2 girl’s teams playing at The Grange School).
  • Five teams reach cup finals but only one triumphs – the new U8 Pumas managed by Russell Lees and made up of boys from the Saturday Soccer Centre. The Pumas go on to be the first team from Whittington to win their age group at the Club’s annual six a side tournament held at the Barracks.


Season 2000/01

  • Kevin Wilson elected as Club Chairman.
  • Club runs 10 teams from the new Under 8’s to Under 14’s.
  • Weekly Saturday morning Soccer Centre is launched with Paul Agnew.
  • Club receives a £4,500 grant from “Awards for All” which helps fund a new floodlit training area at Whittington Barracks.
  • New design of kit is purchased for the whole Club from ProStar.
  • 15 coaches pass the Club’s first ever F.A. coaching course.
  • Club Rule Book is introduced and a new Membership scheme and Code of Conduct are established. 
  • Girl’s section launched and specialist goalkeeper training provided for the first time.

Season 1999/00

  • F.A. launch mini-soccer on a smaller pitch, 7 a side with 12ft x 6ft goals.
  • Club has 8 teams (including 3 new mini-soccer teams albeit a year above their age as there is no U8 age group with the League yet).
